“International Substance Addiction Symposium”, also attended by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), was held in Malatya between 18 and 20 December 2015, hosted by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality. In the Symposium, which was organized in cooperation with Governorship of Malatya, İnönü University, Malatya Branch of Hayat Association, Platform of Fighting Against Addiction (BAM) and Malatya Branch of Green Crescent Society, and supported by Promotion Fund of the Turkish Prime Ministry, Union of Turkish World Municipality (TDBB), Green Crescent Society, Directorate of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ministry of Justice and TRT, 11 sessions, 1 conference and 1 interview session were made.
On the second day’s night of the Symposium, when International Substance Addiction Symposium Proceedings were also printed, Premiere and Cultural Program were organized. In the Premiere and Cultural Program, where many guests including symposium participants attended, Mayor of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Çakır made a welcoming speech. He stated that he was very happy to welcome inland and international guest for a subject, which interests both the whole world and Turkey, and he added that substance addiction is an important issue to be fought.
International Substance Addiction Symposium was also attended by international guests as well as inland guests. In this framework Munir Al Jabri from Yemen Fight with Drug Association, Dr. Rusti Bin Abd Rashid and Prof. Hussain Habil from Malaysia University, Almaz Mamytov from Republic of Kyrgyzstan Drug Control State Agency, and Tajib Delalic from Bosnia and Herzegovina Novi Grad Municipality made presentations about the activities they carried on in their own countries.
In International Substance Addiction Symposium that lasted between 18 and 20 December, 1 conference, 1 interview and 11 sessions took place. While in the opening session of Symposium, Sertaç Polat from Ministry of Health Tobacco and Addiction Department gave a conference themed as State Policies of Fight Against Drugs, 11 sessions were made on “Drug Trade: Security and Law”; “Current Situation on Substance Addiction: World, Turkey and Region”; “Youth and Substance Addiction: Guidance, Protective and Preventive Activities”; “Addictive Substances and Addiction Process”; “Medical Treatment and Threats that Addict can Face”; “Fight Against Substance Addiction: Society, Family, School”; “Fight Against Substance Addiction: Government Agencies”; “ Fight Against Substance Addiction and Media”; “Role of Local Governments in Fight against Substance Addiction” ; “Role of NGOs in Fight Against Substance Addiction” and “Role of Religion in Fight Against Substance Addiction”. Besides in the symposium an interview was organized with the participation of famous artist Haluk Piyes.
