A delegation led by Uğur İbrahim Altay, President of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, participated in the UN-Habitat 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), held in Baku between 17–22 May 2026.
The forum brought together more than 40,000 participants from 182 countries, including government officials, municipal representatives, urban planners, academics, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations to discuss sustainable urbanization, the housing crisis, climate resilience, and the future of cities.
Held under the theme “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities,” WUF13 focused on solutions to global housing challenges and inclusive urban development policies. The program featured ministerial meetings, high-level sessions, panels, and exhibitions.
World Urban Forum
The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established by the United Nations in 2001 to address rapid urbanization and its impacts on societies, cities, countries, climate change, and public policies. First held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002, the forum has since been organized in different cities around the world. Coordinated by UN-Habitat, the forum is regarded as one of the leading open and inclusive global platforms for discussing sustainable urbanization and urban development.
As part of the program, President Altay and the TDBB delegation visited Temraz Taghiyev, TDBB Executive Board Member from Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Azerbaijan City Municipalities Union. The delegation also met with Fazliddin Umarov, TDBB Executive Board Member from Uzbekistan and Mayor of Samarkand, who was also attending the forum in Baku.
On the same day, the delegation visited Ramil Hasan, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), one of TDBB’s partner organizations. During the meeting, views were exchanged on strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.
