Under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), a Sister City protocol was signed between Şahinbey Municipality and Güzelyurt Municipality (TRNC), both members of the TDBB Board of Directors, on 28 January 2026 in Gaziantep.
In his evaluation regarding the protocol, Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu stated that sister municipality practices hold an important place in the local governance approach. Tahmazoğlu emphasized that such cooperation strengthens not only institutional relations but also the bonds of goodwill between cities.
In his statement, Tahmazoğlu said, “I wish that this partnership, which enhances solidarity in local governance, raises the quality of services, and makes the bridges of goodwill between cities permanent, will be beneficial for both of our districts.”
With the sister city protocol, it is planned to carry out joint initiatives between Şahinbey and Güzelyurt municipalities in many areas, particularly municipal practices, infrastructure works, social services, cultural activities, and educational projects. In addition, it is aimed to strengthen institutional communication through joint organizations and mutual visits.
