Citizens of Kosovo, a Balkan member of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), went to the polls on Sunday, October 12, 2025, to elect mayors and municipal council members.

Voters in Kosovo cast their votes at 2,625 ballot boxes set up in 948 centers to elect 38 mayors and municipal council members. A total of 5,626 candidates participated in the elections, 206 of whom ran for mayor, while the rest competed for seats in municipal councils. According to the latest data published on the website of the Central Election Commission of Kosovo (KQZ), out of 2.1 million registered voters, 39.26% (around 800 thousand people) cast their votes.

Among the Kosovar Turkish political parties, the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP), Innovative Turkish Movement Party (YTHP), Turkish Justice Party of Kosovo (KATP), and Mamuša People’s Movement (MHH) took part in the elections with their mayoral and council member candidates in various regions of the country.

According to unofficial preliminary results, the Vetëvendosje Movement won in the first round in the municipalities of Kamenica, Podujeva, and Štimlje. In 12 municipalities, including major centers such as Pristina, Prizren, Mitrovica, and Peć, their candidates advanced to the second round.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) won mayoral positions in Skenderaj, Ferizaj, and Elešan and will continue to compete in the second round in six other municipalities. The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) won in the municipalities of Istok and Lipjan and advanced to the second round in nine more municipalities. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) won the mayoral seat in Deçan and will compete in the second round in five other municipalities.

In areas with a Serb-majority population, the Serb List (Lista Srpska) won mayoral seats in nine municipalities in the first round, while only in Kllokot will a second round be held. In the municipality of Mamuša, where the Turkish population is in the majority, the candidate of the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP) won in the first round and secured the mayoral position. In addition, the Nisma Socialdemokrate party won the mayoralty in Mališevo, while an independent candidate succeeded in winning in Drenas.

The overall voter turnout was around 39.26%. Since no candidate in many municipalities managed to achieve more than 50+1% of the votes, the second round of the elections will be held on November 9, 2025.
