The Cooperation Protocol was signed between the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan at a ceremony held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on May 15, 2025. The ceremony held in Uzbekistan within the scope of the 8th Term Meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of Turkey and Uzbekistan (KEK) was attended by vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz, Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Cemşit Kuçkaro, TDBB and Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, Uzbekistan Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilhomjon Umrzakov, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, TDBB Executive Board Members Rize Mayor Rahmi Metin, Başiskele Mayor Mehmet Yasin Özlü, Pendik Mayor Ahmet Cin, Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz and invitees.
The protocol was signed by TDBB President Uğur İbrahim Altay and Uzbekistan Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilhomjon Umrzakov.
At the signing ceremony, President Altay reminded that TDBB is an international organization with more than 1,200 municipal members from 31 countries. President Altay said, “The main purpose of TDBB is to develop sister relations between municipalities and to share experiences. Today, we have signed a protocol between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and TDBB on the development of Master Plans for cities in Uzbekistan.”
President Altay emphasized that they will work on transferring the municipality experience in Turkey and the region to municipalities in Uzbekistan within the framework of the signed protocol and said, “Our goal is to create beautiful places for people living in cities to live happier. We want to contribute as much as we can to this. I am very happy to contribute to the recently developing relations between Uzbekistan and Turkey as TDBB. I hope the protocol will be beneficial.
TDBB Delegation also held various meetings in Uzbekistan
The TDBB delegation, which was in Uzbekistan on the occasion of the signing ceremony of the Cooperation Protocol, also made a series of visits to the cities of Samarkand and Bukhara in Uzbekistan.
The delegation met with Samarkand Mayor Fazliddin Umarov and the Consul General of the Republic of Turkiye in Samarkand Salih Caner as part of the visit. In addition, the TDBB May Executive Board Meeting was held in Samarkand.
During the visit to Bukhara, the delegation met with the First Deputy Governor of Bukhara, Batır Ahmedoviç, and exchanged views on cooperation issues.
The work program was completed with the visit of historical and cultural sites in Uzbekistan.
