Within the scope of the Aid to Palestine Project initiated in cooperation with Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and member municipalities, Zeytinburnu Municipality, a member of TDBB Board of Directors, provided financial support to its sister city Beit Hanun Municipality in Gaza Region of Palestine.
Within the scope of the Aid to Palestine Project initiated upon the decision of TDBB Board of Directors, under the coordination of TDBB and with the support of member municipalities, Zeytinburnu Municipality sent a cash aid of 3.219.190 TL (100.000 dollars on the date of the council decision) to its sister city Beit Hanun Municipality in Palestine, in order to support the meeting of basic humanitarian needs such as municipal services, salaries, food, fuel and water needed by the Palestinian people.
About Beit Hanoun
Beginning on October 27, 2023, with the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army, as part of its ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gaza, destroyed the town of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza with aerial and artillery bombardment, displaced its inhabitants and subjected them to starvation and dehydration.
Beit Hanoun is a town on the north-eastern coast of the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, its population in 2006 was 32,187. Beit Hanoun is administered by the Palestinian National Authority. It is located near the Hanoun River, just 6 km from Sderot, Israel.
Palestinian Beit Hanoun Municipality became a member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) in 2012. In addition, Zeytinburnu Municipality and Beit Hanun Municipality signed a protocol of twinning and cooperation in 2006.
