Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) members, Pendik (Türkiye) Municipality and Shahrisebz (Uzbekistan) Municipality became sister cities with a ceremony held in Pendik on February 14, 2025.
The signing ceremony of the sister city protocol held in Pendik Municipality was attended by Mayor of Pendik Ahmet Cin and Mayor of Shahrisebz Sherzod Boriev, Chairman of Yüksalish Institution, Member of Parliament of Uzbekistan Bobur Bekmurodov, Member of Parliament of Uzbekistan Zafar Khudaiberdiev, Representative of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Ravshan Sirozhitdinov, Deputy for the Protection of the Rights and Legal Interests of Enterprises Subordinate to the President of Uzbekistan Jamşid Urunov and Vice President of Yuksalish Movement Askar Mamatkhanov and mayors of Samarkand, Navoi, Fergana and Yangi Namangan from Uzbekistan.
In his speech at the signing ceremony, Mayor of Pendik Municipality Ahmet Cin said, “It is very important for us to host the delegation from Uzbekistan. Today, we are signing a sister city protocol in order to further strengthen the relations between Shahrisebz Municipality and Pendik Municipality, and we are emphasizing the importance of the brotherhood between the two countries by hosting you in our municipality. With this cooperation protocol, we aim to benefit the people of both cities and both countries by developing joint projects in cultural, social and economic fields. We are very pleased to be a sister city with a municipality from Uzbekistan.”
After the signing of the protocol, the Mayor of Pendik Municipality Ahmet Cin was presented with doppi (skullcap), one of the traditional clothes of Uzbekistan, Uzbek Çapan and a plaque. Mayor of Pendik Municipality Ahmet Cin also presented gifts to his guests.
After the signing ceremony, the delegation of Uzbekistan inspected the packaging waste sorting facilities of Pendik Municipality.
