Local elections were held in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 for city, town and village municipal council members across the country. In the local elections, which were held for the sixth time after gaining independence, Azerbaijanis went to the polls to determine the council members.
In the local elections, where 5 961 000 voters voted, 16092 candidates competed for 8071 council seats in 685 municipalities.
According to Azerbaijani law, council members are first elected in local elections, and then these members elect the mayor from among themselves.
