Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) members, Kavajë (Albania) Municipality and Karatay (Turkey) Municipality signed Sister City Protocol on 28 January 2025 with a ceremony hosted by Kavajë Municipality.
Mayor of Karatay Hasan Kılca, Mayor of Kavaje Fisnik Qosja, Director of the Institute of Albanian Municipalities (IAM) Agron Haxhimali and guests attended the signing ceremony.
The protocol aims to implement joint projects and expert training programs between the two cities in areas such as information and experience sharing, economic cooperation, education, health, youth, sports, tourism, protection of historical and cultural heritage, environment, energy, information technologies and transportation.
Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca expressed his happiness for signing a sister city protocol with Kavajë Municipality of Albania. Stating that the protocol is an important step and will contribute to the development of ties between the two friendly countries, Mayor Kılca said; “The protocol we signed is the beginning of a new period of cooperation between Karatay and Kavajë. Turkey and Albania are two friendly and brotherly countries with strong ties. We are here to carry this friendship further and contribute to our citizens with concrete projects. Thanks to the agreement between the two cities, we will exchange information and experience. We aim to develop joint projects in the envisaged areas. I would like to thank Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Institute of Albanian Municipalities (IAM) for managing this process between the two municipalities. May our cooperation protocol be beneficial.”
Mayor of Kavajë Fisnik Qosja stated that the cooperation is an important opportunity for both cities. Qosja stated that he believes that the cooperation agreement will bring great benefits to both municipalities: “We will carry the long-standing strong ties between Albania and Turkey even further with this cooperation. Our duty as local governments is to provide solutions for the welfare of our people. Today, we are taking a historic step here as two sister municipalities. Thanks to this protocol we have realized with Karatay Municipality, we will both share municipal experiences and carry out joint projects in many fields between our cities.”
After the ceremony, Mayor Hasan Kılca and the accompanying delegation visited the sister city of Kavajë and were informed about the local government activities in the city.
