Local elections were held in Mongolia on October 11, 2024. While the turnout rate was 53,1 % across the country, the turnout rate in the capital Ulaanbaatar was recorded as 42,2 %. A total of 2 million 250 thousand people were expected to vote in the country.
In the Local Elections, council members and mayors of 1 capital, 21 provinces, 330 districts and 9 districts of the capital were elected. There are 21 provinces in Mongolia, the capital is Ulaanbaatar. There are 330 districts in total in 21 provinces. The capital Ulaanbaatar has 9 districts.
In total, 17,277 candidates from 11 party coalitions competed for more than 8,000 seats. Of these, 11,673 (67,6 %) were male candidates and 5,604 (32,4 %) were female candidates. There were also 267 independent candidates.
In the provincial elections, the Mongolian People’s Party (MP) won in 14 provinces and the Democratic Party (DP) in 7 provinces. In the capital Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian People’s Party won 40 out of 45 seats. In the districts of the capital, the Mongolian People’s Party won in 8 districts, while the Democratic Party won in 1 district.
Mongolia has a surface area of 1,5 million km² and a population of 3 million 400 thousand. 96 % of Mongolian citizens are Mongolian and 4 % are Kazakh.
