The Cyprus Peace Operation Park, built by Keçiören Municipality in Sancaktepe Neighborhood for the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, was opened with a ceremony held on October 9, 2024.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Keçiören Mayor Dr. Mesut Özarslan, Cyprus Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar, Cyprus veterans, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations attended the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, TRNC President Tatar said that the naming of the park opened by Keçiören Municipality as “Cyprus Peace Operation Park” on the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation was very meaningful and valuable.

ABB President Yavaş also pointed out that the park was opened on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation and emphasized that this park is very important in order to convey and remind future generations of the epic struggle there.

Mayor of Keçiören Municipality Özarslan stated that they see this special day as a reflection of the glorious history and a symbol that will keep the struggle for independence alive forever, and that this park will remain as a symbol of the epic struggle. Özarslan thanked President Tatar, the current representative of the Cyprus cause on this meaningful day and emphasized that the TRNC people’s struggle for freedom will continue forever. Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mansur Yavaş and Mayor of Keçiören Dr. Mesut Özarslan presented gifts and flowers to the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar for honoring the opening ceremony.

After the ribbon was cut by the protocol, the ceremony was completed with a tour of the park and a collective photo taken in memory of the day.
