A declaration regarding Israel’s attacks on the Palestinian people of Gaza was read at the October Board of Directors Meeting of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), which was held in Istanbul on October 20, 2023, with the participation of local administrators from 10 different countries.

In his speech at the meeting, TDBB President Uğur İbrahim Altay condemned Israel’s attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza, saying that they were unacceptable and inhumane behavior, and read the TDBB Palestine Declaration.

In the statement, “We strongly condemn the attacks committed by Israel, which has committed crimes against humanity, adding the latest bombing of Al Ahli and Al Mamedani Hospitals to the crimes it has committed against civilians in Gaza for days, causing the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians and wounding many others. On this occasion, as TDBB, we state that we stand by all our member municipalities in the region, especially the Gaza Strip Municipalities Union, and wish mercy to our Palestinian citizens who lost their lives in the attacks and a speedy recovery to the injured.

As a result of Israel’s increasing attacks against the people of Gaza, which are against international law and would be considered a war crime, more than two million people in the Gaza Strip cannot access basic human resources such as food, water, electricity, fuel and medicine, and this situation makes the conditions challenging for the region and it has a significant negative impact. In addition, the people, who have been constantly attacked and displaced since the first day, are deprived of health care, which is their most natural right, due to the bombing of hospitals and health centers and the lack of medical materials.

As TDBB, we would like to state that in the 21st century, which is the age of information and technology, we are still against such racist attitudes and genocidal efforts of the past centuries. In this context, we hope that the aid sent will be delivered to Gaza, which is on the verge of running out of basic and medical resources, as soon as possible, and that the necessary diplomatic support will be provided in this regard.

As TDBB, we condemn Israel in the strongest terms and support the people of Gaza under all circumstances. In order to allow the opening of humanitarian aid corridors to Gaza, to deliver medical aid and to provide electricity, water and fuel, we urge the people of all cities and conscientious people in the world, especially our member countries and municipalities, to take a stand on the side of innocent civilians and raise their voices and we invite you to use every means possible to establish peace.
