Under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), with the contributions of Beykoz, Selçuklu and Karatay Municipalities and in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands Proplan Foundation, in the name of the late Hatice Mehmedovic, one of the symbols of the search for justice who lost her husband and two sons in the Srebrenica genocide, the “Srebrenica Mothers Nursing Home Project”, was completed and opened with a ceremony held on October 23, 2022.
The ceremony was attended by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Migration Minister Edin Ramic, Bosnia and Herzegovina Islamic Community President Husein Kavazovic, authorities from TDBB members Selçuklu and Karatay Municipalities, surviving Srebrenica mothers and many guests.
In his speech here, the President of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein Kavazovic said that the mothers of Srebrenica have always been those who protect their dignity, country and culture.
Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Migration Minister Edin Ramic also stated that the nursing home, which was opened, is a part of an important project and that the care of the mothers who will stay here will be carefully conveyed.
Suhra Malic, one of the mothers staying in the nursing home, said that her two sons were lost in the genocide and said, “Words are not enough to describe the importance of this nursing home for us.”
The nursing home, whose construction started in 2019, has a capacity of 84 beds. Young people from Srebrenica, who graduated from health school, will take care of the mothers staying in the nursing home, which includes social areas and a health center.
