Kazakhstan’s Turkistan Municipality Deputy Mayor Aliya Şalkarova and her accompanying delegation, who were in Istanbul for Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival, visited the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) on 13 November 2021.

Deputy Mayor Aliya Şalkarova met with Secretary General Fahri Solak at the headquarters of the Union. Stating that Korkut Ata Film Festival was very good and that it is very important for the Turkish World to come together in such an important festival, Şalkarova thanked TDBB for the invitation.

After a presentation about the city of Turkestan, Deputy Mayor Aliya Şalkarova said, “With the transition of Turkestan, which was previously a district, to the status of a province, it has shown great development and change with the investments made in the last 3 years. In Turkestan, there is the Ahmet Yasawi Tomb, which is the only work of Kazakhstan in UNESCO. The only new airport built during the independence period was also built in Turkestan. There are approximately 1,600 historical buildings in our city. In addition, the city is suitable for health tourism with its thermal waters. Therefore, the city of Turkestan has turned into the center of attraction of Kazakhstan today. There are also railways connecting Turkestan to Uzbekistan. We think that Turkestan will develop further with the investments to be made in the coming years. For this reason, we expect to benefit from the experiences of Turkey in the field of tourism and city management and support from TDBB in this context.”

On the other hand, TDBB Secretary General Solak talked as, “We are ready for cooperation on experience sharing. One of the aims of the Union and one of the most regular activities is experience sharing programs. We are ready to further strengthen our cooperation with Kazakhstan in every field. We thank you both for your participation in Korkut Ata Film Festival and for your visit to our Union.”

The meeting also focused on the sister city protocol signing ceremony, which is planned to be signed between Zeytinburnu and Üsküdar Municipalities and Turkistan Municipality in December 2021, Turkish World Interactive Display project and other joint projects that can be made.

The visit ended with a gift exchange and a photo shoot.
