Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) members, Bağcılar (Istanbul) Municipality and Jablanica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Municipality signed a sister city protocol with a ceremony held in Jablanica on 26 June 2021.

The signing ceremony, which took place as part of the visit of TDBB Executive Board to Bosnia and Herzegovina, was attended by Mayor of Bağcılar Lokman Çağırıcı and Mayor of Jablanica Damir Sabanovic, as well as Mayor of Başiskele Yasin Özlü and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak.

Talking after the signing ceremony Mayor Çağırıcı said, “As Bağcılar Municipality, we have always been together with our brothers from Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are people of common culture. We did not see this place apart from ourselves. We have had many collaborative projects from training to social life. With this signature of sisterhood, our ties have become even stronger. Now we will meet more and implement more joint projects. I wish these signatures are beneficial for all of us.”

On the other hand Mayor of Jablanica Damir Sabanovic stated, “We visited TDBB on March 12, 2021 and a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Union. During the meeting, the possibilities for the Jablanica Municipality to establish a sister city relationship with Bağcılar Municipality under the coordination of TDBB and to develop cooperation were evaluated. As a result of the steps taken by TDBB and the correspondence made, the two municipalities became sister cities by signing within the scope of the TDBB delegation’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We would like to thank Bağcılar Municipality and the Union of Turkish World Municipalities for completing the process so quickly.”

The program was completed with a tour of the Jablanica Museum and a family photo.
