The International Balkan Annual Conference (IBAC), organized every year in a Balkan country, was held on 26-28 September 2018 in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Within the framework of his visit to Croatia, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak held a series of meetings in Croatia.
The conference that was organized in cooperation of Istanbul University and University of Zagreb, and supported by the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), the member municipalities, the Turkish Historical Society and TIKA was hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Zagreb.
Besides Turkey’s Ambassador to Croatia Mustafa Babur Hızlan the opening session of the conference was attended by the Secretary-General of the TDBB Fahri Solak, Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, academics from Turkey and Balkan countries as well as Britain, Poland, Germany, and Romania.
In the conference titled ’’Crossing the Borders of Anatolia – Balkans – Central Europe: The Complex Relationship between History, Art, Economy and Law’’, evaluations were made in the fields of art, economy and law and mutual history and culture of the region. Migration, trade, cultural interaction and Ottoman legacy in the region were among the topics discussed in the event. In the conference, where 70 scientists from the country and abroad were present, 15 sessions were held simultaneously for 2 days.
As a part of the conference exhibition named ’’Croatia in the Ottoman Documents’’ was opened to the visitors by the State Archives of the Republic of Turkey.
Local Government and Institutions Meetings
In the framework of the visit to Croatia by the Secretary-General of the TDBB Fahri Solak, information about the works of the TDBB was provided and cooperation opportunities were evaluated in the meetings with Mayor of Sisak, Kristina Ikic Banicek, President of Zagreb Chamber of Commerce Mirza Sabic, Chief Mufti of Croatia Aziz ef. Hasanovic, TIKA’s Coordinator for Croatia Hasim Koc, Head of the Foreign Relations Department at the Zagreb Metropolitan Municipality Renata Arar and Sister Cities Department Manager Antonela M. Ivankovic, President of the Halal Certificate Association Aldin Dugonjic, President of the Legal Unit of Croatia’s Islamic Society Bermin Meskic.
