Year 2016 has been announced as “Yusuf Khas Hajib Year” in Turkish World. Yusuf Khas Hajib, greatest poet, scientist and philosopher of Turkish Islamic History, will be commemorated in all Turkish World countries for the 1000th anniversary of his birthday.

The opening ceremony of Yusuf Khas Hajib Year will be held on February 19, 2016 in Istanbul. The program, which is hosted by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and organized in cooperation with TURKSOY, Republic of Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, and Republic of Kyrgyzstan Embassy in Ankara, will be attended by Minister of Culture Maksutov, accompanied with a delegation of 35 people, in addition to Republic of Turkey Minister of Culture and Tourism Mahir Ünal and many other guests.

Who is Yusuf Khas Hajib?

Born in Balasagun city of Karahan State in 1016, famous philosopher Yusuf Khas Hajib’s work “Kutadgu Bilig”, written about a thousand year ago as the first political book in Turkish literature carrying importance for Turkish-Islamic history and culture between 1069 and 1070, is named as “the information which gives happiness”. A thousand year ago, by writing “Look, the human is born, dead but his words stayed; the human has left but his name has stayed. O Man, if you want immortality make your words nicer”, Yusuf Khas Hajib describes the ideal human being for the next generations and guides them. He dies in 1077 in Kashgar.
