The project titled “In the Footsteps of Evliya Çelebi: Ottoman Heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina” was completed and introduced in 2024 in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) decided to cover the project expenses for the year 2025.

The project was carried out by the Balkan Research Center and the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), and its launch took place at the IUS campus in Sarajevo in 2024.

The project aims to promote Ottoman-era structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina — especially those restored by Turkish institutions and organizations — as part of the country’s tourism assets.

Other goals of the project include creating alternative tourist routes for visitors to Bosnia and Herzegovina, increasing the tourism potential and economic development of lesser-known regions in the country. The project’s official website, www.evliyaninizindebosna.com, provides information about Ottoman-era and post-Ottoman heritage as well as the natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project was carried out in cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye’s Embassy in Sarajevo, the Islamic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Directorate General of Foundations, and the Foundation for the Development of Relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BİGMEV).
