In cooperation with Konya Metropolitan Municipality and Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), the house of the Palestinian family in Al-Khalil, which was unjustly demolished by Israel, was rebuilt within the framework of Sister City relations.
TDBB and Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay reminded in his statement on the subject that the murderous Israeli regime has turned its systematic massacres in Palestine into genocide in Gaza since 6 October 2023.
Emphasising that the Palestinian people continue their resistance in an honourable way despite the persecution and injustice they have been subjected to for years, Mayor Altay said, ‘The murderous regime demolished the house of one of our families in the city of Al-Khalil in the West Bank in 2022 unfairly and unlawfully. Upon this, we, together with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities, took action at that time and signed a protocol with Al-Khalil Municipality to build a new house for our family. With the protocol, the house was completed and delivered to the family. I express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project.’
TDBB President Altay emphasised that Palestine is a matter of conscience not only for Muslims but for all humanity and added the following:
‘It is our historical and humanitarian responsibility to stand by our Palestinian brothers and sisters, defend their rights and show our solidarity against the murderous state’s policies of destruction. We will continue to be the defender of justice against oppression, construction against destruction, hope against despair under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. As Union of Turkish World Municipalities and Konya, we will continue to do our part for our Palestinian brothers and sisters. On this occasion, we once again send greetings and prayers to our Palestinian brothers and sisters who have become the symbol of resistance all over the world’.
