Nawruz Festival, accepted as the starter of Spring in Turkish World and celebrated with various activities, was performed with a program that took place in 21 March 2015.
Nawruz program, organized every year in the open area of Topkapı Cultural Park with the cooperation of Istanbul Governorate, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY), Zeytinburnu Municipality, Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and Kültür Inc., took place in Zeytinburnu Cultural and Art Center due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The program was attended by Governor of Istanbul Vasip Şahin, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kadir Topbaş, Garrison Commander Brigadier Şenol Alkış, Vice President of TDBB and also Mayor of Zeytinburnu Murat Aydın, Secretary General of TDBB Fahri Solak, General Manager of İBB Kültür Inc. Nevzat Kütük, foreign mission representatives and a great number of citizens.
Turkish World Met in Zeytinburnu
The program started with the lighting of Nawruz Fire in front of Zeytinburnu Cultural Center and continued with the concert of Janissary band in foyer area. Within the context of the program that gathered Turkish World, Motif Folk Dances Group, Kyrgyzstan and Karaçay Folk Dances Groups’ performances, and Caucasian Circassian Association’s local folk dance show got great credit from the audience. The organization went on with the concerts of Beşir Ahmet Köse, Sedat Çolakoğlu and Uighur singer Melike Nevruz from Kazakh Cultural Association; following the concerts, 10 year-old Manas reader Ümmet Devletov, who was awarded by President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev with a medal of honor, read a part from the epic of Manas of Kyrgyzstan. At the end of the program the guests were presented “Semen Tray”, the symbol of greening soil. Within the context of the program, the guests were also offered Turkmen Bread “Nan”, a dessert special to Nawrus “Sümelek”, Halloumi Cheese and “Soro” (a kind of drink which is made of wheat in Kyrgyzstan)from the exhibitions that aimed to present the cuisine culture of Turkic Republics. The Ceremony of Turkmen Rice Boiler that was performed in Turkmenistan stand attracted great attention. The participants were offered samples from Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkmen and Caucasian Cuisine. At the end of the program the protocol guests performed the forging ritual special to Nawruz.
