Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB)’s Information and Technology Sharing Program themed as “Waste Management/ Recycling and Employment Applications in Local Governments” organized for member municipalities in Balkan countries with the cooperation of TIKA Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, was completed.
The opening ceremony held in Headquarters on 23 February 2015 was participated by almost 30 member mayors coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia, Vice President of TDBB and also Mayor of Zeytinburnu Murat Aydın, ISKUR Istanbul Provincial Director Muammer Coşkun and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak. In the program after the opening speeches, ISKUR Istanbul Provincial Director Muammer Coşkun briefed about the functioning of ISKUR and the activities held in local governments, and the membership certificates of new members who are Doboj, Doboj-Istok, Novi Grad Sarajevo, Stari Grad Sarajevo, Travnik, Visoko, Vukoslavje, Fojnica Municipalities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Glavinitsa Municipality from Bulgaria, and Rozaje Municipality from Montenegro, were given.
ISMEK and ÜSİM Employment Activities were examined
On the second day of the program, the delegation was informed about the activities of ISMEK (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Employment School) and ÜSİM (Üsküdar Employment Center). In the dinner “Sister Cities Meeting” was held hosted by Üsküdar Municipality. In addition to Mayor of Üsküdar Hilmi Türkmen, the meeting was attended by mayors who had sister city relations like Mayor of Şahinbey Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, Mayor of Bağcılar Lokman Çağırıcı, Mayor of Ümraniye Hasan Can, Mayor of Osmangazi Mustafa Dündar, Mayor of Tavşanlı Mustafa Güler and Kartal Municipality Head of Municipal Council Ali Ekber Şahin, and the participants exchanged opinions with Sister City municipal authorities.
The second part of the program took place in Konya
The delegation went to Konya at the third day of the program and examined the activities of Selçuklu Municipality and Konya Metropolitan Municipality on waste management and employment, on site. In Konya program in addition to the presentations of Konya Metropolitan Municipality and Selçuklu Municipality themed as waste management and employment, the delegation had a historical and spiritual Konya visit in accompany with an experienced guide. Besides the second meeting of “Sister Cities” meeting was held in Konya. The Sister Cities Meeting hosted by Selçuklu Municipality was attended by Mayor of Selçuklu Uğur İbrahim Altay and Balkan countries’ Mayors and also Deputy Mayors of Kırşehir and Sincan Municipalities, Bosnia and Herzegovina Consular Agent Ercan Uslu, Macedonia Consular Agent Ahmet Ziya Gündüz, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Foreign Relations Department Head Selim Yücel Güleç, Deputy Mayors of Selçuklu Municipality and Unit Managers.
Returning back to Istanbul after the heavy schedule in Konya, at the last day of the program the delegation attended to the presentation of ISTAC inc.’s-one of the corporations of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality-Odayeri Facility in Kemerburgaz and was informed about the activities on Environmental Protection and Evaluation of Waste Materials of the Municipality.
The mayors were presented their Participation Certificates
The one-week Information and Experience Sharing Program “Waste Management/ Recycling and Employment Applications” for Balkan member mayors was completed on 27 February 2015 with the dinner and Certificate Ceremony hosted by Bayrampaşa Municipality. The Participation Certificates of the mayors were presented by TDBB Administrative Board Member and also Mayor of Bayrampaşa Atila Aydıner, Deputy Mayor of Bahçelievler Hikmet Tekir and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak.
