Under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), TDBB Board member Şahinbey Municipality of Turkey and TDBB Uzbekistan member Termez Municipality signed the Sister City Protocol at a ceremony held in Gaziantep on September 5, 2023.

Attending the Signing Ceremony were Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, from the Uzbekistan delegation Termez Mayor Uktam Turaev, as well as Yükseliş National Movement President Bobur Bekmurodov, Navai Mayor Dilmurod Ergaşev, Kokand Mayor Maruf Usmanov, Kattakurgan Mayor Gavhar Alimova, Davlatabad Mayor Anvar Tajimirzaev. Uzbekistan Presidential Administration Advisor Shahuz Hakimov, Uzbekistan Court of Accounts Department Head Anvarjon Soliev, Yükseliş National Movement Vice President Askar Mamathanov and Coordinator Barnohon Niyazımbetova and other guests.

Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu stated that there are very strong ties between the two countries and said, “With the suggestion of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), our Şahinbey Municipality signed a sister city protocol with the Termez Municipality of Uzbekistan. People of Uzbekistan and Turkey are people who speak the same language, have the same faith, and are actually from the same geography. There are very strong ties between the two countries from the past. Therefore, we became sister cities in order to further strengthen these ties, share experience between our municipalities and further develop our cities. We will carry our brotherhood forward with mutual visits and studies. I would like to thank the Mayor of Termez Uktam Turaev and his delegation who came to Gaziantep.”

Stating that they will mutually cooperate on many issues, Termez Mayor Uktam Turaev said, “We signed a sister municipality protocol with our Şahinbey Mayor under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB). With the protocol we signed, the dialogues between the two municipalities will further develop. I would like to state that with our protocol, we will leave our cooperation on youth, tourism, history, culture, environment and many other issues as a legacy to the coming years. I hope that the two municipalities will undertake important projects with this brotherhood project. “I would like to thank TDBB and Şahinbey Municipality,” he said.

The ceremony was completed with exchanging gifts and taking a family photo to commemorate the day.
