With the cooperation of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Karatay Municipality, the restoration of the Islamic Community Foundation building located in Trebinje Municipality of Bosnia and Herzegovina was completed and opened with a ceremony held on September 2, 2023.
The ceremony was attended by TDBB Board Member, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, Karatay Municipality Deputy Mayor Osman Ciger, Trebinje Islamic Community President Miralem Hadžimahović, Trebinje Islamic Community Board members Vedad Banović and Armin Bešović, Trebinje Islamic Community chief imam Sadik Fazlagić and guests.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Mayor Hasan Kılca, who stated that he was very happy to be in this historically important land, said, “We came here 2 years ago. In 2021, as Karatay Municipality, in cooperation with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), we supported the construction of the Zvornik Martyrdom Monument and the restoration of the Trebinje Zupa Mosque. During that visit, our brothers here demanded that the Islamic Union Foundation building was left unfinished and that this building be completed. We also said that we would support this project together with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB). Thankfully, we have completed the building as of today. As Karatay Municipality, together with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities, we try to support wherever there is a need in every corner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to help with many requested things. We have sister city relations with Novi Grad, Gorajde and Teocak Municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Again, we supported the furnishing and opening of the Mostar Cemal Biyedic University Student Dormitory. As municipalities in Turkey, we will continue to support all friendly and brotherly countries, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
The Chief Imam of the Trebinje Islamic Community, Sadik Fazlagić, thanked TDBB and Karatay Municipality for their contributions. He reminded that he informed mayor Hasan Kılıca about the construction of the Trebinje Islamic Union Foundation’s unfinished building and a social facility project that will contribute to the tourism of, during his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina 2 years ago; “The Mayor of Karatay, Mr. Hasan Kılca, provided us with the necessary support for the realization of this project as soon as possible with TDBB. We also carried out the necessary work to complete the project. The fact that this facility has a halal certificate is another aspect that we attach great importance to. There was a great need for such a social facility. This project is very important for the small Bosniak Muslim community here. I would like to thank the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Karatay Municipality for this. It is a great honor for us to host you here. Thank you again for your support.”
Trebinje Islamic Community Council President Miralem Hadžimahović also talked about the importance of the projects realized with the contributions of TDBB and Karatay Municipality. Miralem Hadžimahović said, “On behalf of the Trebinje Islamic Union Council, I would like to thank you very much. You are the people who can best understand the situation around here. As such projects continue, we will continue to be here. We always want to see you here and feel your support.”
Certificates of Appreciation were presented after the ribbon cutting. The program ended with the guests visiting the building and taking a group photo to commemorate the day.
