The meeting between the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and the Central Asian Local Governments Academy (OAYYA), in which cooperation opportunities and experience sharing between institutions were discussed, was held on 8 August 2023 by video conference.

TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, Central Asian Academy of Local Administrations (OAYYA) Director Asel Kurmanalieva, OAYYA Project Manager Aynura Chandıbaeva, OAYYA expert Zuhra Kazanlıeva and TDBB Foreign Relations Central Asia Coordinator Mairam Baigonusheva attended the meeting.

In his speech at the meeting, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak gave information about TDBB’s activities in Central Asia and Kyrgyzstan. Solak stated that Kyrgyzstan is one of the member countries with which TDBB cooperates most actively, and Kyrgyzstan is also represented in the Board of Directors of TDBB. Solak said, “TDBB has implemented many projects in Kyrgyzstan since its establishment. Developments emerge from close cooperation with Kyrgyzstan municipalities and local governments. Under the coordination of TDBB, many sister city relations have been established with the municipalities of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, information sharing and expert training programs have been carried out, and important steps have been taken to develop cooperation through mutual delegation visits.

Orta Asian Local Governments Academy (OAYYA) Director Asel Kurmanalieva said, “We closely follow TDBB’s achievements in the development of Local Governments; I believe that our cooperation will be mutually beneficial and productive and that we can achieve positive results for our organizations. Central Asian Local Governments Academy is an academy established to increase the potential of local governments in Central Asia and to develop partnership and cooperation in sharing experience in the field of local development. As the Academy, I would like to inform you that we are ready to discuss the details of long-term cooperation options with TDBB. I believe that our cooperation with TDBB will contribute to our growth, development and new achievements.”

At the meeting, Central Asia Academy of Local Governments Director Asel Kurmanalieva made a presentation on the activities of the Academy, and TDBB Foreign Relations Central Asia Coordinator Mairam Baigonusheva made a presentation on the work of TDBB.

After the presentations, the meeting was concluded with the evaluations of the participants on the topics discussed and a mutual question and answer session.

Central Asian Local Governments Academy

Central Asian Academy of Local Authorities was established in April 2021 in cooperation with the Kyrgyzstan Union of Local Authorities and Development Policy Institute (KPE). It was created to meet the needs of local governments of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian countries, to provide an accessible source of information-analysis and systematic training for local government employees. The Academy operates in the fields of education, consultancy and publication for the development of administrative bodies and local governments.
