The 2023-2024 term presidency of the Southeastern Europe Network of Local Government Associations (NALAS), one of the cooperative organizations of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), will be carried out by Mayor of Fatih Mehmet Ergün Turan, also a member of TDBB.

Ergün Turan, who will carry out the term presidency of NALAS 2023-2024, took over the task from Serbian Union of Cities and Municipalities and Mayor of Leskovac Goran Cvetanovic at the 18th General Assembly meeting held in Istanbul on March 15, 2023. Explaining his vision about the work he will do at NALAS at the ceremony and stating that he will work to expand the scope of NALAS, Turan said that every city and municipality in the region can benefit from the knowledge, experience and expertise of NALAS.

Mentioning that they started their duty with a new strategy covering the years 2023-2027, Turan said: “I am committed to leading and supporting the implementation of NALAS’ new strategy. I believe that NALAS is stronger and more determined than ever to achieve its mission and goals. We will also focus on sustainable development, digitalization of public services, resilience of cities and social inclusion.”

Drawing attention to the earthquakes that affected the south of Turkey and the north of Syria on February 6, Turan stated that approximately 15 million people in 11 provinces of Turkey were adversely affected by these earthquakes and tens of thousands of citizens lost their lives. Emphasizing that international solidarity and cooperation is very important in such crises, Turan expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Turkish nation, expressing that the municipal union, especially the NALAS General Secretariat, showed solidarity from the first day.

NALAS, a network of local government associations in South East Europe, brings together 13 local government associations representing 9000 local governments. TDBB is also a member of NALAS.
