Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) Administrative Board Member Karatay (Konya) Municipality supported its sister city Tatlısu Municipality (TRNC) to establish a distillation unit to produce lavender oil.

In the project, where the oil of medicinal aromatic plants such as lavender, thyme, sage, rosemary, laurel and eucalyptus are aimed to be extracted and brought to economic value, the distillation unit, which will open a new source of income for the producers, will serve all TRNC producers.

In his speech, Mayor of Tatlısu Hayri Orçan said: “As Tatlısu Municipality, we are justifiably proud of breaking new ground. We established the first distillation unit of this scale in our country and extracted the first lavender oil. I hope it will be beneficial for our country, our region and all our producers. We will extract the oil of medicinal aromatic plants such as Lavender, Thyme, Sage, Rosemary, Laurel, Eucalyptus and bring it to more economic value. Our distillation unit, which will open a new source of income for our producers, will serve the producers of the whole country. I would like to thank Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of our sister city Karatay, who provided us with the distillation device, and the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) for the coordination.”

Tatlısu Municipality and Karatay Municipality became “Sister City” with the protocol signed in Tatlısu on 7 March 2022.
