A mutual student exchange program was held within the scope of the “Sarajevo Brotherhood Bridge” project in cooperation with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) members, Selçuklu Municipality and its sister city, Stari Grad (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Municipality.
With the project carried out between 12 and 16 June 2022, 107 students from Konya were brought to Bosnia and 130 students from Bosnia who learned Turkish were brought to Konya. With the project, it was aimed to reinforce the historical brotherhood between two nations by making mutual visits to the countries of the students of the two countries. Thus, a total of 237 students became cultural ambassadors.
Mayor of Selçuklu Ahmet Pekyatırmacı, who sent off the Bosnian students from Konya Airport, also welcomed the students from Konya, who completed their cultural tour in Bosnia, at the airport. Mayor Pekyatırmacı, who talked with both outgoing and returning students, received the feelings and thoughts of the students participating in the project.
Stating that the first phase of the Selçuklu Sarajevo brotherhood bridge project has been completed, Mayor Pekyatırmacı said, “130 of our students came to Konya from Sarajevo. 107 of our students went to Sarajevo from Konya. Our 237 students met with fellow students in Konya and Sarajevo. From now on, they will make their relations with their fellow students permanent. Their communication will be constant. We established a bridge of brotherhood between Sarajevo and Konya. Our children, who came here, collected very good memories, and had a great time. They met with their friends at school. They had the opportunity to visit historical cultural sites. They learnt about Turkey, they learnt about the Turkish people. We plan to continue this project in the coming years.
Students from Konya, who came to Bosnia and Herzegovina within the scope of the project organized with the contributions of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education and Stari Grad Municipality, visited historical and cultural places in cities such as Sarajevo, Travnik and Mostar, and participated in the activities held at the sister schools.
Students who went to Konya, on the other hand, visited many places such as the Tropical Butterfly Garden, Culture Valley Sille, Mevlana Museum, Konya Science Center, 80 Binde Devri Alem Park and Sille Nature School.
