Under the coordination of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), Başiskele Municipality and Vares Municipality of Bosnia and Herzegovina signed a sister city protocol with a ceremony held in Başiskele on April 29, 2022.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of the protocol, Mayor of Başiskele Mehmet Yasin Özlü emphasized the long-standing brotherhood and union of hearts between Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina and said: “It is a great pleasure for us to welcome our guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the hometown of Alija Izetbegovic, whom we love very much, in this beautiful month of Ramadan. As Başiskele Municipality, we received a sister city request from Bosnia-Herzegovina from Union of Turkish World Municipalities, of which we are a member, and we welcomed it. I believe that this protocol will be instrumental in strengthening the long-standing unity and brotherhood between Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina, sharing knowledge and experience, and ensuring cultural exchange.”
On the other hand, Vares Mayor Zdravko Marosevic also wished the protocol to be beneficial and added: “We are very happy to be here. We believe that this protocol will increase the cooperation between the two countries and the two cities. Turkey is a state that we love very much and that we have had feelings of brotherhood for many years. We are also pleased to have Turkish businessmen in our city. We will be very pleased to host our Mayor of Başiskele and the council members in Vares. You now have a home there. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality and this sister city protocol.”
After the signing ceremony, the delegation made a city tour and attended the iftar program together.
