Union of Turkish World Municipalities’ (TDBB) members Zeytinburnu Municipality (Istanbul) and Sultanhani Municipality (Aksaray) became sister cities with the protocol signed in Zeytinburnu on 18 March 2022.

The protocol signing ceremony was attended by Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy, Mayor of Sultanhanı Fahri Solak, Secretary General of TDBB Fahri Solak, Zeytinburnu Municipality Council Member Dr. Reşide Yüksel and other authorities.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy said that Sultanhanı is still a new district, but it is developing rapidly and they are happy to be brothers with such a beautiful Anatolian municipality. Arısoy said, “When Sultanhanı is mentioned, the Sultanhanı Caravanserai from the Seljuks comes to mind. And of course, its reputation in carpet restoration. Thanks to our Mayor, he brought us a very nice gift to commemorate this day. They didn’t get the title of ‘The Carpet Restoration Center of the World’ for nothing”.

On the other hand, Sultanhanı Mayor Solak said, “Many of our compatriots came to Istanbul Zeytinburnu and engaged in trade there. As a result of the meetings we had with the Mayor of Istanbul Zeytinburnu, Mr. Ömer Arısoy, we decided to make Istanbul Zeytinburnu Municipality and Sultanhanı district, sister cities. Istanbul Zeytinburnu will make a great contribution to our district in many areas from tourism to commerce.”

Mayor Solak also said, “Sultanhanı district is renewing itself day by day. We are taking firm steps towards opening up to the world in our country and in social life. We will all see the benefits of being sister cities of Istanbul’s precious district Zeytinburnu and Sultanhanı in the coming days and months. Good luck to both of our municipalities”.

The ceremony was concluded with the exchange of gifts and a photo shoot to commemorate the day.
