Member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) Mayor of Olovo Municipality Cemal Memagic and accompanying delegation visited TDBB on 9 September 2021.

Mayor of Olovo Memagic, who met with the Secretary General Fahri Solak at the Headquarters of the Union, stated that the purpose of his visit was to exchange information and experience for the projects to be implemented in Olovo from TDBB that has close relations with Bosnia. Memagic posited that Olovo city has natural hot water resources and the city is touristic because of the nature of the city and he added that “There are thermal waters in our city; we hope to make economic benefit from them for the sake of our city. We have a thermal hotel project that we have already started. We need to hear information and experience of Turkish municipalities that has thermal hotel running experience in this field in order to get ideas and to avoid possible mistakes that may be encountered while implementing such projects”.

Moreover Memagic stated that “Our city has splendid nature so that many nature lover tourists prefer to come here from all over the world. In addition to that, the necessity of our own citizens to get away from the city and spend time in natural areas has increased due to the pandemic. For these reasons, we are planning to implement a cable car project in order to enable both the citizens of Olovo and tourists to spend time in Olovo’s great nature. Therefore, we also want to exchange information and experiences of the municipalities in Turkey in that field as well. The cable car project which we have seen in our previous visits in Turkey made us to think that by doing so nature tourism in our city will revive like in the thermal hotel project. Furthermore, in case of implementation of these projects, it will be a good investment area for investors in Turkey.

TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak expressed that sharing the knowledge and experience, we do have been doing as an institution, is exactly such thing and he added that “We have been conducting works to exchange knowledge and experience among our members. In Turkey, municipalities carry out projects related to thermal tourism and nature tourism, as well as the private sector. We can bring you together with municipalities working on both fields and make the connection to share knowledge and experience. To share this information and experience in a sustainable way, sister city relationships might be established with the suitable municipalities. To build a sister city relationship can provide the opportunity to ensure the continuity of relationships. As TDBB, we are ready to do our part in the coordination of this process.”

Within this framework, it was agreed to start the official process regarding building sister city relationships between the Municipality of Olova and suitable cities from Turkey.
