“Azerbaijan Member Municipalities Information and Experience Sharing Program” organized by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) in cooperation with UNDP Turkey, Bağcılar, Esenler, Pendik and Ümraniye Municipalities was held on 11-14 July 2021 with presentations and field trips in Istanbul.
The program was attended by President of Union of Azerbaijan Municipalities and Mayor of Narimanov Temraz Tagiyev, Mayor of Nizami Vugar Guliyev, Mayor of Yasamal Tahir Mammadov, Mayor of Lökbatan (Karabakh Region) Rasim Ahmedov, Mayor of Saray (Absheron Region) Mehi Hasanov, Deputy Mayor of Binegedi Municipality Toğrul Babayev , Deputy Mayor of Hövsan Municipality İbrahim İbrahimov, Councilor of Sumgait Municipality Akif Kerimov, Councilor of Sebail Municipality Manaf Talibov, Legal Branch Manager of Sebail Municipality Cengiz Tufanlı and Chairman of Local Committee of Saray Municipality Fatima Aliyeva.
The first day of the program was organized with the training presentations made on 12 July 2021 at the Union Headquarters. UNDP Turkey Urbanization Portfolio Manager Aslıhan Albostan made a presentation on “Private Sector Participation into Inclusive and Sustainable City Management”, Researcher at UNDP Turkey Melis Türker made her presentation on “Smart City Performance Evaluation within the framework of Sustainability: Istanbul Case” and the last presentation was made by Development Counselor in UNDP Azerbaijan Nargiz Guliyeva on “Azerbaijan’s Infrastructure and Urbanism Projects and Possible Collaborations”. In the afternoon session, Member of Presidency of Turkey Local Authorities Policy Board Dr. Hayri Baraçlı made a presentation titled “Effective and Efficient Management of Cities”.
On the second day of the program, Azerbaijan delegation visited Esenler Municipality. Deputy Mayor of Esenler Adil Şenden met with the delegation and made a presentation on “Urban Transformation Projects” to the delegation. In addition, Esenler Municipality Manager of Urban Transformation İbrahim Arslan and IT Manager Yunus Kurt made a presentation on “Smart City Applications” and then the delegation made a field trip. In the afternoon, the delegation met with Deputy Mayor of Bağcılar Municipality responsible for Urban Transformation Şahin Köse and Advisor of Mayor Kenan Gültürk made a presentation on “Urban Design and Urban Transformation” and then the delegation made a field trip.
On the last day of the program, 14 July 2021, Wednesday, the participants visited Mayor of Ümraniye İsmet Yıldırım. After the visit, the delegation listened a presentation and a field trip on “Municipal Affiliates and Companies and Fundraising Practices”. In the afternoon on the same day, the delegation visited Pendik Municipality and met with Deputy Mayor of Pendik İbrahim Hakkı Aysan. There the group listened Aysan’s presentation on “Waste Management and Recycling Applications” and made a field trip were made for the delegation.
After the visit of the Azerbaijan delegation’s meeting with TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak and the program was completed and the group took the participation certificates.
