The contract signing and groundbreaking ceremony of the Spreča Peace Bridge project, to be built between the cities of Doboj and Doboj Istok in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and its Member Municipalities was held in Doboj city on 28 June 2021.
The contract of the construction of the bridge which will be connected the cities of Doboj and Doboj Istok on the Spreča river in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was signed by the TDBB Secretary General, Doboj Municipality, Doboj Istok Municipality and the representatives of the construction company. After the signing ceremony, the groundbreaking ceremony was held at the construction site. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Mayor of Beykoz Murat Aydın, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, TDBB members Mayor of Karatay Hasan Kılca, Mayor of Doboj Boris Jeriniç, Mayor of Doboj Istok Kemal Bratic and Consul General of Turkey in Banjaluka Oğuz Kılıç.
TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, in his speech at the ceremony, posited about TDBB’s projects held in the many cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Doboj-Doboj Istok Spreča Peace Bridge is one of the most significant one among them in Bosnia. Solak also added that, “I believe this bridge project that we have just started after this ceremony will make a great contribution of Turkey-Bosnia relations and a very big step for the cooperation between these two countries.
Mayor of Doboj Boris Jerinic said that, “Bridges are connecting cities and people. This bridge is what Doboj city needs the most right now. I am very glad that today we have collaboratively made the first step of the establishment of the bridge. We all are looking forward to the bridge to be completed and to use it.
Mayor of Doboj Istok Kemal Bratic said that, “Although the protocol regarding the construction of the bridge was signed a few years ago, the start of the construction was delayed for some reasons. The construction of the bridge started today after this groundbreaking ceremony. I wish this bridge which has so much importance for both cities will be beneficial for everyone.”
After the completion of the, prefabricated and wooden bridge over the Spreča river will be transformed in a new modern way. The project cost, which is approximately 450 thousand Euros, will be covered by TDBB with 300 thousand Euros and the rest will be covered by Doboj and Doboj Istok Municipalities. The bridge is planned to be completed and opened to use by the end of this year.
