“Srebrenica Nursing Home Center” built by Beykoz Municipality to its sister city Srebrenica in cooperation with Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and EMMAUS International Aid Association, was opened with a ceremony on 28 June 2021.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Migration and Refugees of Bosnia Edin Ramiç, Mayor of Beykoz Murat Aydın, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, Mayor of Karatay Hasan Kılca, directors of Emmaus International Aid Association, Srebrenica mothers and several guests.

The nursing house will be served as a house for the Srebrenica Mothers and other elderlies who witnessed the most painful days of the war (1992-1995) where 8,372 civilians were massacred which was built by Beykoz Municipality as a symbol of sisterhood.

Mayor of Beykoz Murat Aydın who expressed his great pleasure at the ceremony for taking part in projects that will contribute the welfare of its sister city Srebrenica posted that, “This house we built for our mothers and elderly people in Srebrenica, where the bloodiest genocide in history took place, will be a symbol of our sisterhood and also beneficial for our sister city. I am very pleased to take part in such a meaningful project for the mothers of Srebrenica. I would like to thank TDBB for giving us this opportunity to take part in such a good project.”

TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, in his speech, stated that they give a special attention to Srebrenica as Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and TDBB supports and conducts many projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have involved more than 50 projects in the last five years in Bosnia. The needs of Sebrenica mothers will be covered thanks to this nursing house just after the opening of the House built in cooperation with TDBB and Beykoz Municipality. Solak also said that they are planning to host all Srebrenica mothers in Istanbul after the pandemic.

Deputy General Manager of Emmaus International Aid Association Elvedin Skrebo pointed out that they have been in a strong cooperation with TDBB for many years and he added that, “We have visited the nursing house area built for Srebrenica mothers. Union of Turkish World Municipalities has been supporting many other projects of us such as Srebrenica student dormitory, nursing house, Doboj Istok youth center and Potoçari center. “We are giving concrete support to many of our projects, such as the. We thank TDBB on behalf of the Bosnian people for their help”.

After the opening ceremony, the delegation visited and prayed the Potocari Memorial Cemetery Center where the victims of the genocide were buried.
