Delegation of Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities (KTBB), member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), visited Konya with the invitation of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, to carry out the “Experience Sharing Program” on 13-16 June 2021. Within the framework of the program, in addition to President of TDBB and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, the delegation also met with the Governor of Konya, the Mayors of Selçuklu, Karatay and Meram and shared their experiences.
The program, under the chairmanship of President of Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities (KTBB) and also Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, was attended by Mayor of Kyrenia Nidai Güngördü, Mayor of Çatalköy Mehmet Hulusioğlu, Mayor of Lapta Mustafa Aktuğ, Mayor of Beyarmudu İlker Edip, Mayor of Tatlısu Hayri Orçan, Mayor of Yenierenköy Emrah Yeşilırmak, Mayor of Alsancak Fırat Ataser and KTBB General Coordinator Hüseyin Köle.
At the beginning of the program, the delegation visited President of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay. Mayor Altay stated that Konya has made significant progress in municipal management thanks to its knowledge accumulated from the past and added, “We are also working hard to share this knowledge. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we have many international tasks. Perhaps the most important of these is the Union of Turkish World Municipalities. We are doing important work related to our geography there. As of today, we need to work to close the wounds of the pandemic and return to routine municipal services as soon as possible. We, as Konya Metropolitan Municipality and TDBB, are always ready.”
President of Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities (KTBB) Mahmut Özçınar, on the other hand, emphasized that Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s contributions to Cyprus and especially Maraş are very important. Özçınar said, “We make important contributions on behalf of local governments with the work we do at TDBB. We believe that we will go a long way in this field by taking our relations to the next level and sharing experience, helping each other and solidarity.”
Presentations were also made to the delegation of Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities on topics such as Environment, Zero Waste, Agricultural Services, Health and Social Services, Youth Projects and Transportation within the framework of Konya program. Participating in the Experience Sharing Program, the KTBB delegation also visited Selçuklu, Meram and Karatay Municipalities. During the meetings, in which the importance of the continuation of experience sharing was emphasized, a consensus was reached on increasing cooperation and developing sisterhood relations between municipalities.
