4th International Cengiz Aytmatov Issyk-Kul Forum was made under the auspices of Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and with the support of the Yunus Emre Institute, in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek on 11 December 2020 via video conference.
The forum was attended by the President.tatarstan.ruent of TDBB and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nadir Alpaslan, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev, President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Turkish Group and Member of Parliament of Ankara Asuman Erdoğan, Rector of Hacı Bayram Veli University Prof. Dr. Yusuf Tekin, Chairman of the Maarif Foundation Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün and Kyrgyz Ambassador to Ankara Kubanychbek Omuraliyev.
The forum began with a video message which was sent by the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the opening session was started with the speech of President Altay. Altay, in his talk, stated that Cengiz Aytmatov is not only one of the most masterful writers of Kyrgyz or Turkish literature, but also of world literature. Altay also posited that the forum organized for the memory of Cengiz Aytmatov and it was one of the most important signs that he continues to live among us with his vast cultural background, ideas and works. Moreover he put forward that, “As Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we have very good relations with Kyrgyzstan and as TDBB we are also working together. I believe this forum and other events to be held in the future will further the links and good relations between our countries”.
About Issyk-Kul Forum
The first meeting of the Issyk-Kul Forum was held in 1986 and with the participation of the friends of Cengiz Aytmatov. The second Issyk-Kul Forum was made in 1997 in the capital of Kyrgyzistan Bishkek. The 3rd one was made in 2018 with the memory of Cengiz Aytmatov’s 90th birth year which was announced as a “Year of Commemoration” with the participation of 155 intellectuals from 25 different countries. Finally in the forum which was made in Bishkek this year which was held for the fourth time, it was decided to change the name of forum as “International Cengiz Aytmatov Issyk-Kul Forum” instead of Issyk-Kul Forum.
