Local and regional by-elections were held on 11-13 September 2020 to elect 18 mayors in 83 regions of Russia, local council members of 22 administrative regions, 11 regional parliament members and 4 parliament members for Duma, the lower wing of the Russian Parliament. In these elections, 35 million voters voted, almost one third of the registered voters in Russia.
Results were announced region by region by the Russian Central Election Commission. Accordingly, the United Russia Party won the election in the Komi Republic, Tatarstan, Kamchatka Peninsula and in more than ten regions. The ruling Party of United Russia was also the winner of the local level elections in other regions.
Not all administrative regions in Russia are managed in the same way and with the same institutions. There are 6 different types of local governments and no elections are made for each one at the same time.
Rustam Minnihanov was re-elected
The current President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnihanov, a member of TDBB, was re-elected as President of Tatarstan with 83.28 % of the votes. Rustam Minnihanov took an oath at the ceremony held on September 18, 2020 and took office.
