TDBB Administrative Board Delegation, under the chairmanship of President of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) Uğur İbrahim Altay, visited Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The visit, which took place on 10 February 2020 in Foreign Affairs Ministry’s residence, was attended by President of Altay and also TDBB Administrative Board members Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Yücel Yılmaz, Mayor of Altındağ Asım Balcı, Mayor of Osmangazi Mustafa Dündar, Mayor of Selçuklu Ahmet Pekyatırmacı, Mayor of Tavşanlı Mustafa Güler, Mayor of Başiskele Mehmet Yasin Özlü and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak.
Informing Minister Çavuşoğlu about the projects of TDBB, Altay said: “Having a representative from TDBB in the official delegation during the country visits will be beneficial in establishing and developing relations at the local level. We think it would be beneficial to put the sister city relations in a new order according to the changing needs.”
On the other hand, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu thanked TDBB Administrative Board for their projects and wished success to the new administration. Çavuşoğlu added: “Local diplomacy plays an important role in international relations. I agree that it is necessary to add a new dimension to sister city relations. Just signing up and being a sister city is not enough. There should be an agreement on the concrete projects between the cities to be sister. We need the activities of institutions such as TDBB in foreign policy. We are ready to give you our support and create close cooperation with TDBB.”
Continuing with the briefing of delegation members on their projects in brother countries, the meeting ended with taking family photo as a remembrance of the day.
Later on, TDBB Delegation visited Mayor of Altındağ Asım Balcı in his office and was informed about the on-going projects.
