The historic city of Uzbekistan – Samarkand and Sakarya became sister cities. The sister city protocol was signed by Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Yüce and Mayor of Samarkand Boburmyrzo Oblakulov with a ceremony in Samarkand on 17 November 2019.
During the ceremony, Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Yüce who is also the Administrative Board Member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) stated that relations between the two cities will be strengthened by this protocol and with the help of the joint projects, these cities will be getting better. Yüce emphasized that cooperation with Samarkand will develop with the sister city relationship and added that: “A common language, culture and traditions make it easier to the improvement of our relations and the expansion of our cooperation. The development in science, cultural values and sports thanks to our partner universities and any partnership projects which will enhance our cohesion is very important to us.
Nowadays, it may be said that the relations between our countries in various fields are quite intense and productive. But this is not quite enough. Our common history and culture provide opportunities for development of our cooperation and we have a chance to actualize it. In the future, our cooperation will be expanded and also strengthened.”
Then, Turkish delegation with the guidance of Ekrem Yüce visited the historical and cultural places of Samarkand and Bukhara.
