“TDBB North Macedonia Member Municipalities Information and Experience Sharing Program”, organized by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) in cooperation with Presidency of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Osmangazi, Bayrampaşa, Pendik and Zeytinburnu Municipalities, was carried out between 03 and 09 November 2019 in Bursa, Kocaeli and Istanbul with presentations and site visits. 

The program was attended by Mayor of Gostivar Dr. Arben Taravari, Chairman of Council of Kumanovo Municipality Atina Murgashanska, Mayor of Dolneni Djemil Kjamılı, Mayor of Centar Zupa Arijan Ibraım, Mayor of Radovis Gerasim Konzulov, Mayor of Studenican Azem Sadıkı, Mayor of Teartse Isen Asanı, Mayor of Vrapçişte İsen Shabanı, Mayor of Jelino Blerim Sejdı, Mayor of Mavrovo Rostuşa Medat Kurtovskı, Mayor of Konce Blagoj Ilıev, Deputy Mayor of Gostivar Gzim Hadjıejup and District Head of Albanian Allies Party Valbon Ljımanı.

On the first day of the program, the delegation visited Mayor of Osmangazi Mustafa Dündar in his office and received information about municipal activities. The delegation then visited places such as Osmangazi Municipality Wildlife Center for unclaimed animals, Hamitler Adventure Park, Solid Waste Collection Center and saw the works on site.

On the second day of the program, the delegation continued with the visit of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate. The participants listened to presentations on Green Field Management in Municipalities and Water and Waste Water Management in Municipalities in Kocaeli, and then made field trips and observed their work.

On Wednesday, November 06, 2019, participants visited Pendik Municipality, listened the presentation on Trash Collection and Separation in Municipalities and made a field trip. On the same day, the delegation visited the TDBB and met with Secretary General Fahri Solak, and received information about TDBB’s activities and projects.

On Thursday November 07, 2019, the delegation visited Bağcılar Municipality and met with Mayor Lokman Çağırıcı, the delegation then made a trip to the Packaging Waste Collection and Separation Facility and Nostalgia Gardens to examine the work on site.

On Friday November 08, 2019, the last day of the program, the participants visited Mayor of Bayrampaşa Atila Aydıner in his office. Aydıner made a presentation to the delegation about the Municipality’s Park and Landscaping Services, followed by a field trip. On the same day, the delegation visited Zeytinburnu Municipality and listened to the presentation about Medicinal Plants Garden and made a field trip.

Sister Municipalities Dinner and Certificate Ceremony 

The sister municipalities dinner and certification ceremony of TDBB North Macedonia Member Municipalities Information And Experience Sharing Program was held in Florya Atatürk Pavilion hosted by Turkish Grand National Assembly.

The ceremony was attended by PMs of Tekirdağ Çiğdem Koncagül and Mustafa Yel, Vice President of TDBB and Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, TDBB Administrative Board Member and Mayor of Gostivar Arven Taravari and North Macedonia delegation, in addition to Mayor of Altınova (Yalova) and also TDBB Supervisory Board Member Metin Oral, Mayor of Bor (Niğde) Serkan Baran, Mayor of Keleş (Bursa) Mehmet Keskin, Mayor of Ergene (Tekirdağ) Rasim Yüksel, Deputy Mayor of Zeytinburnu Sertaç Güleç, Foreign Relations Expert of İzmit Municipality Betül Özcan, Council Member of Selçuk (İzmir) Municipality Hasan Uysal, President of Rumelia Köprülüler Association Vedat Vardar and President of All Rumelia Turks Association Mehmet Ali Vatansever from Turkey.

We Care Very Much about Sharing Examples of Good Practice

Vice President of TDBB and Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy expressed that they are very happy to host the ceremony and added: “Tonight, as TDBB, we see an example of our continuous sharing of knowledge and experience with municipalities of friendly and member countries. More than 10 mayors and officials from North Macedonia toured cities in our country for a week. They last saw municipal practices in Zeytinburnu. This is the closing ceremony tonight. We care very much about sharing examples of good practice. Another contribution is not only in diplomatic terms with friend and sister countries, but also in terms of developing cooperation with other institutions and organizations and even through civil society. Rumeli Turks are also one of the founding elements of Zeytinburnu. This evening we also have Rumelian citizens, non-governmental organizations and municipal councilors in Zeytinburnu. We are very happy to host this both as Zeytinburnu Municipality and as TDBB.”

They met with their Sister Cities in Turkey

TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak said that municipalities from North Macedonia have met with their sister municipalities in Turkey and added: “TDBB is an international organization, where local managers and municipalities from 30 different countries are members. Tonight we are closing a one-week program of our member municipalities in North Macedonia. As part of this program, we invited 15 mayors from North Macedonia to Turkey last Sunday. They met with their sister municipalities in Turkey. They had the opportunity to examine various projects in the field. They had the opportunity to exchange views with our mayors in Turkey”.

A Key Program for Mayors from North Macedonia

TDBB Administrative Board Member and also Mayor of Gostivar Arven Taravari stressed that it was an important program for Mayors of North Macedonia and added: “Tonight is important for Muslims. I celebrate the holy night of all Muslims. This is a 7-day program organized by TDBB. There was an information and experience sharing program for the municipalities of North Macedonia. It is an important program for mayors from North Macedonia. Here we have seen the application of decentralization successfully. Turkey is a sister country working closely with North Macedonia. I hereby thank TDBB. We hope that this cooperation will continue in the future”.

The program ended with the return of the delegation after a city tour in Istanbul on November 09, 2019 Saturday.
