Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) Administrative Board Meeting was held on 23 October 2019, Wednesday in Girne hosted by Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities with the participation of local authorities from 6 different countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, TRNC, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Moldova and Turkey).
The meeting, under the chairmanship of President of TDBB and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, was attended by Minister of TRNC Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, Mayor of Güzelyurt of TRNC and President of Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities Mahmut Özçınar, TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak, TDBB Admnistartive Board Members who are Mayor of Novi Grad of Bosnia and Herzegovina Semir Efendic, Deputy Mayor of Gostivar of North Macedonia Gzim Hacı Eyub, Deputy President of Kyrgyzstan Local Governments State Agency Nurdyn Alysherov, Foreign Relations Manager of Gagauz Autonomus Region of Moldova Vitalii Vlah, Mayor of Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Osman Zolan, Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Yüce, Mayor of Altındağ Asım Balcı, Mayor of Bağcılar Lokman Çağırıcı, Mayor of Başiskele Mehmet Yasin Özlü, Mayor of Beykoz Murat Aydın, Mayor of Selçuklu Ahmet Pekyatırmacı, Mayor of Şahinbey Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, Mayor of Şehzadeler Ömer Faruk Çelik, Mayor of Tavşanlı Mustafa Güler and Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy.
Minister of TRNC Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu, in his speech, stated that TRNC is in the process of institutionalization and that we could not successfully employ developments in the world to our country due to the isolated situation of our country. Çavuşoğlu emphasized the TDBB has positive impact on municipalities in North Cyprus. Moreover, Çavuşoğlu posited that TRNC’s local government system has been reforming and in this regard TDBB’s support will have a significant impact on it.
Ambassador Ali Başçeri stated that he hoped to all municipalities within networks of Turkey’s target geography will be strengthening more and more with one another. Başçeri also posited that “It is very important that North Cyprus municipalities’ connection and dialogue with municipalities of Turkey’s target geography and with Turkish municipalities in particular will help TRNC’s political existence”.
After that, the meeting continued with the briefing of TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak on the ongoing activities since the last Administrative Board Meeting on 24 July 2019 and the discussion of the meeting’s agenda.
Within this framework, it was decided to accomplish Project of Kljuc Islamic Union’s Building by our Union which was demanded by Kljuc Municipality, to give financial support for General Assembly of Slow Cities (Cittaslow) which will be held in TRNC on November 2019 by TDBB, to cover the necessary materials of the needy students in Zeytinburnu district cooperatively by our Union and Zeytinburnu Municipality within the framework of Stationery Aid Project, to make a necessary process to make Novi Grad (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Karatay (Konya) sister cities, to make business visit of TRNC delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to boost cooperation between local governments in the dates of 17-20 November 2019 under the coordination of TDBB, to work on purchasing fire truck to Ohrid Municipality cooperatively by TDBB and its sister city Safranbolu (Karabük) Municipality, to realize the Park Project in Visoko Osman Ef. Redzoviç Madrasa which was demanded by Bosnia and Herzegovina Islamic Union under the coordination of TDBB and with the support of Beykoz Municipality, to attend Göbeklitepe Cultural Heritage and Tourism Fair on 07-10 November 2019 in Şanlıurfa, to attend “International Investment Forum” which will be held on 08-09 November 2019 in Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova, to organize Information and Experience Sharing Programs for North Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan and Albania Municipalities in the fall term of 2019 and for Tatarstan Municipalities in January of 2020, to actualize Ajvatovica Film Project which was demanded by Novi Grad (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Municipality in cooperation with TDBB and TRT, to give support to Eurasian Orientalists Workshop by Marmara University on 23-24 October 2019 in Istanbul, to give support to Science and Culture Fair which was organized by Turkish World Children Foundation in the dates of 19-21 December 2019 in Ankara, to attend the opening ceremony of Bosnia and Herzegovina Srebrenica Memorial Cemetery Roof Renovation Project which was established by TDBB and Srebrenica’s sister cities Kocaeli Metropolitan, Zeytinburnu and Beykoz Municipalities on 01 November 2019, to work on Doboj Friendship Bridge which was planned to establish cooperatively by TDBB and Turkey member municipalities after necessary construction permits were obtained, to coordinate Chingeltei (Mongolia) Municipality’s visiting program to its sister city Pendik Municipality, to start the necessary process to sign cooperation agreement between TDBB and Bosnia and Herzegovina Internally Displaced Persons and Ministry of Refugees, to work on signing a cooperation agreement between TDBB and Turkish Maarif Foundation.
Besides in the meeting, the membership requests of Niğde, Uçhisar (Nevşehir), Hebron (Palestine), Zewaida (Palestine), Tearce (North Macedonia) and Durres (Albania) Municipalities to TDBB were accepted.
