The awarding of the winners of the 4th Turkish World Documentary Film Festival, whose project partners include Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), was presented at a ceremony held on October 5, 2019 in Istanbul.
At the award ceremony, held in the studio of the Turkish State Television and Radio (TRT) in Tepebaşı, the Turkish film director Nejla Demirci “Confrontation” took first place in the professional category. The film “Transit” by the Egyptian director Mariam El Marakeshi took the second place, the third film “On the Way to the Homeland” of the Turkish director Hayriye Savaşçıoğlu was awarded the third place.
In the Student category, the first prize was received by Aidana Topchubaeva from Kyrgyzstan with the film “Ayana”, the second place went to the film “Following the Kite”, directed by Anıl Tokur from Turkey, and the third prize was received by “Past History”, directed by Azerbaijani director Aydın Necefov.
Special jury awards also found their hosts. Turkic Council Silk Road Special Award was received by the film “Tüzszünet” by the Hungarian director Gabor Szabo. Adem Şenay and Kerem Acay, who participated in the competition from Turkey, received Jury Culture and Art Special Award for their film “Siege”, and Turkish directors Yavuz Selim Taşçıoğlu and Hacı Elmas received Turkish World Honor Award” for the documentary film “Simurg: The Story of a Phoenix Bird”.
The winning films will meet with thousands of art lovers in Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Macedonia, Uzbekistan, TRNC and Turkey with the slogan of “9 Countries, 9 Cities, One Festival”.
The festival, organized jointly with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TİKA), Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), Turkish State Television and Radio (TRT), Istanbul University and the Federation of Turkish World Journalists (TDGF), held a panel about the past and present of Turkish cinema, which turned 105 years old.
