TDBB delegation headed by Uğur İbrahim Altay, President of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, visited Tatarstan between 22 and 25 September 2019 upon the invitation of Union of Municipalities of Tatarstan.

Tatarstan program was attended by President of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, Secretary General of TDBB Fahri Solak, Executive Board members Mayor of Zeytinburnu Ömer Arısoy, Mayor of Beykoz Murat Aydın, Mayor of Bağcılar Lokman Çağırıcı, Mayor of Başiskele (Kocaeli) Mehmet Yasin Özlü, Mayor of Şahinbey Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, TDBB High Advisory Board Member and also PM of Istanbul Erol Kaya and PM of Adana Ahmet Zenbilci.

TDBB delegation met with Tatarstan Investment Agency and Union of Municipalities of Tatarstan on the first day of their visit to Tatarstan.

During the visit in Tatarstan Investment Agency, the delegations met bilaterally after the presentation on the investment opportunities in Tatarstan and Turkey-Tatarstan economic relations. President of Investment Agency Taliya Minullina stated that she is glad to welcome such a strong delegation and added that Turkey is the biggest foreign investor with 2.5 billion dollars and that the common historical and cultural relations are influential in this investment partnership. She also indicated that there should be projects on increasing the trading volume and development of cooperation on tourism issues. During the meeting, President of TDBB Uğur İbrahim Altay pointed out that the potential of tourism between two countries should be increased and Tatar investors are also expected to Turkey. The meeting continued with mutual evaluations on the possibilities of cooperation.

During the meeting with the delegation of Union of Municipalities of Tatarstan, President Gubaydullin Egzam Samatoviç emphasized that he is glad to cooperate closely with TDBB and the municipal experience of Turkey is very important; he also said that the municipal development in Tatarstan started after Soviet period and that they want to benefit from the experience of Turkey. He also stated that the 100th establishment anniversary of Tatarstan Autonomous Republic will be celebrated in 2020 so there could be collaborate projects for the occasion. On the other hand, Uğur İbrahim Altay thanked for the hosting and hospitality and expressed his gladness to have Tatarstan as one of the countries which are worked with closely. He said that as TDBB, we are ready for every kind of cooperation between local governments, especially new sister city relations. At the meeting, it was decided that an Information and Experience Sharing Program in Turkey for member municipalities of Tatarstan will be organized in January.

On 23 September 2019, Monday, TDBB delegation was accepted by Prime Minister of Tatarstan Alexei V. Pesoshin. During the meetings, it was underlined that the commercial and cultural bonds between Tatarstan and Turkey have developed day by day. Alexey Pesoshin stated that Turkey is one of the outstanding foreign partners of Tatarstan. Pesoshin said, “The outstanding Turkish companies in Tatarstan carry out their projects actively and day by day the number of the bilateral visits increases. Tatarstan municipalities are sister cities with 17 municipalities in Turkey and this number increases every year. I thank President of TDBB Dear Uğur İbrahim Altay for the effort he has shown for the empowerment of the bonds between Tatarstan’s and Turkey’ municipalities and also for the increase of cooperation opportunities.” On the other hand, President of TDBB Altay thanked Prime Minister for accepting the delegation and gave information about TDBB and the projects on Tatarstan.

On 24 September 2019, Tuesday, the delegation visited Mayor of Nijnekamsk Aydar R. Metşin, TDBB Administrative Board Member from Tatarstan. During the meeting, Metşin stated that they had two sister cities from Turkey and they carried out projects with these cities and that with this visit, there would be a new term on relations with Turkey. Altay said at the meeting that they are glad to work closely with municipalities of Tatarstan and that they wanted to enrich this cooperation with more municipalities from Tatarstan. On the occasion of TDBB’s visit to Nijnekamsk, flags of Tatarstan and Turkey were reflected on TV Tower of the city.

On 25 September 2019, Wednesday, the delegation visited Republic of Turkey Consulate General in Kazan. On the same day, TDBB delegation visited historical Bolgar State archeological site and Cultural Complex in UNESCO World Heritage list of Tatarstan.

Besides, 2019 September Executive Board Meeting was held on 25 September 2019 Wednesday, hosted by Union of Municipalities of Tatarstan in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan.
