Uzbekistan Senate approved the agreement on the establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States. Uzbekistan will join Turkic Council as a full member with this agreement and Nakhichevan Agreement will enter into force on 14 October 2019 for Uzbekistan.

Turkey positively evaluated this decision of Uzbekistan. Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu posited that Uzbekistan has decided to participate in Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) and Turkmenistan wants to become an observer member of Turkic Council. Çavuşoğlu said that they would send the documents to Uzbekistan immediately for participation and then they would complete the official process.

Secretary General of Turkic Council Amreyev said that “We welcome Uzbekistan our brother country who just joined the family of Turkic Council. I strongly believe that brotherhood ties established and developed under the flag of Turkic Council will strengthen with the new dimensions”. Uzbekistan’s decision of participation of Turkic Council has coincided with the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Nakhichevan Agreement and also stated that President of Uzbekistan Şevket Mirziyoyev will be joined to 7th Turkic Council Summit on October of this year in Azerbaijan.

The main objective of Turkic Council is to promote cooperation among members in many areas, including foreign policy, economy, transport, customs, tourism, education, media, youth and sports on the area of approximately 5 million square kilometers of the lands of member states.

The Council, which aims to develop international cooperation especially in Central Asia and Caucasus, focuses on foreign policy issues in particular aiming at strengthening peace and stability in the target regions, increasing cooperation and revealing the potential of the region on development.

Uzbekistan is one of 30 countries of TDBB member countries. Governor of Jizzah of Uzbekistan was elected to TDBB Administrative Board at the 5th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of TDBB which was held on 2 May 2019.
