“4th Turkish World Ancestors Sports Festival” organized to introduce the values of Turkish culture to the next generations and also to strengthen the unity of Turkish communities with the hosting of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB)’s member Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and supported by Youth and Sports Ministry, Governorate of Bursa, Turkish Traditional Sport Branches Federation, World Ethnosport Confederation and Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), was held between 19 and 21 July 2019 in Keles Kocayayla.
In Kocayayla, the slopes’ of Uludağ mountain of Bursa, cultural objects, tastes and clothes of relative communities such as Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Uighur, Tatar, Nogai were introduced to the visitors in the stands which was held in the festival area.
More than 1200 athletes from Turkey and abroad participated to the festival and many traditional Turkish sport such as buzkashi, equestrian acrobatics, traditional archery, javelin, equestrian archery, aba-girdle-shalwar wrestling and oil wrestling competitions were performed in the festival.
Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Alinur Aktaş during the opening speech he made at the opening ceremony said that “Our traditional sports which are inherited from our ancestors mean culture to us rather than just a sport. Bringing all Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen, Mongol, Afghan, Kazakh and Tatar together in Kocayayla is a way of showing that we preserve this culture. Our ancestral heritage – ancestors’ sports, which are practiced in peace and war in the history will be kept alive here along with other cultural events. We will further strengthen our solidarity and unity and improve our brotherhood thanks to the 4th Turkish World Ancestors Sports Festival”.
