Members of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), Municipality of Kilis (Turkey) and Municipality of Gostivar (Macedonia) signed a ‘Sister City’ protocol, on November 26, 2018, in a ceremony held in Gostivar.

Mayor of Kilis Hasan Kara and his delegation visited the city of Gostivar and met with the Mayor Arben Taravari. In the meeting where cooperation between the two cities has been evaluated a protocol making Kilis and Gostivar sister cities was signed.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, the Mayor of Kilis Hasan Kara stated that they signed the first sister city protocol in the Balkans with Macedonia’s city of Gostivar and said, ”We are happy to be a sister city with this beautiful city in the Balkans, which is a part of our heart geography. Hereby, we have completed the formal procedures for cooperation in cultural, economic and sporting areas. We have clarified areas of cooperation. I would like to thank Mayor of Gostivar Arben Taravari and his team for the hospitality they have demonstrated”.

Mayor of Gostivar Taravari, expressed his pleasure to be sister city of Kilis and to host Mayor of Kilis. Taravari said that they became sister cities by the common decision of the two cities. “We signed a cooperation agreement today. I hope that we will have cooperation in many fields including mutual investments, especially in education and culture”.
