The 32nd of the International Culture and Garlic Festival organized by the Municipality of Taşköprü, a member of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), was held in the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu between 16-19 August 2018.

At the festival, which started with the cortege march in Taşköprü Square, members of the protocol who visited the country stands and agriculture fair went to the Cumhuriyet Square where the opening ceremony was held. Kastamonu Deputies Metin Çelik and Hasan Baltacı, Mayor of Kastamonu Tahsin Babaş, Mayor of Taşköprü Hüseyin Arslan, President of the International Festivals Union Atilla İpek, institution representatives and a large number of citizens attended the ceremony.

Mayor of Taşköprü Hüseyin Arslan also stated that the garlic, which is called “white gold” by the producers, is a very important source of income for the people of the region. Arslan said, “We are performing our festival since 1987. Festivals are the symbol of unity and cohesion, it is kind of fusion between those in foreign lands and those in the homeland. It is the greatest means of introducing local culture and its unique beauties”.

Festival events included horse racing, panels, beauty contests, the best garlic and calf breeder competition, and various events. Also, folk dance teams from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Peru and Turkey performed folklore shows. Famous artists caused joyful moments by participating in the festival.
