“3rd Turkish World Ancestors Sports Festival”, organized to introduce the values of Turkish culture to next generations and also to strengthen the unity of Turkish communities with the hosting of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB)’s member Bursa Metropolitan Municipality cooperatively by TIKA, Governorate of Bursa and Bursa Union of Culture Tourism Information, was held between 21 and 22 July 2018 at Bursa Atatürk Stadium Square and Keles Kocayayla.
In the festival, which was participated by artists and sportsmen from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, and also students from East Turkestan and many other Turkic countries, ancestor sports known as cultural heritage were brought to the present.
During the opening speech he made at the opening ceremony, Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Alinur Aktaş said, “We aim to support the unity, brotherhood, cohesion, peace and solidarity of Turkish world through ancestor sports. With “Turkish World Ancestor Sports Festival”, which is held for the third time this year, we focus on strengthening the spiritual unity and brotherhood of Turkic communities and also transferring the common Turkish culture to next generations.”
Within the framework of the festival sports, battle and strategy games like kökbörü (catching goat), pars and belt wrestling, horse race, mangala, archery on horse, wrestling on horse, greasy wrestling, archery, javelin, amble and truncheon battle.
While the program was attended by 309 sportsmen and artists over 150, folk dances show, concerts, artistic activities and cultural rituals were offered to the citizens within the concept of event.
