The opening ceremony of Turkish Language classes in two primary schools in cities of Travnik and Buzim, Bosnia and Herzegovina organized in cooperation of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) with Bağcılar Municipality within the context of Yunus Emre Institute’s “My Choice is Turkish Project” was held on 25 and 27 March 2018.
Mayor of Buzim Zikrija Durakovic, Mayor of Bağcılar Lokman Çağırıcı, Education Minister of Una-Sana Canton Muhamed Ramić and school principal attended the opening ceremony held on 25 March 2018 in Buzim Primary School. Beside Mayor Çağırıcı, the ceremony held on 27 March 2018 at the Travnik Elementary School was attended by the President of the Srednjobosanski Canton Tahir Lendo, Mayor of Travnik Admir Hadziemric, Education Consultant at the Embassy of Republic of Turkey in Bosnia and Herzegovina Vasi Ete, Director of Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo Mehmet Akif Yaman, teachers, parents and students.
In the statement made by the Mayor of Bağcılar, he stressed out the historical ties between Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina and said, “By providing serenity we have lived in these lands in peace for many years. We are the inheritors of this tradition. The fact that our brothers living in this land are looking after this legacy is making us happy. Today the students who learn Turkish in Bosnia and Herzegovina are the new representatives of the bridges established in the past”.
In his opening speech, Mayor of Buzim Zikrija Durakovic emphasized that Bosnia and Turkey have a deep history and when he visits Turkey is forced to communicate through an interpreter every time. He said how he is now going to learn the Turkish Language by attending Turkish courses.
President of Srednjobosanski Canton Tahir Lendo in his speech at the ceremony said how they are closely following Turkey’s support in the field of education of Bosnia and Herzegovina that has been given without asking anything in return and added how “My Choice is Turkish Project” is taken care of.
After the speeches, the program consisting of Turkish poems and songs prepared by the students who are learning Turkish was acclaimed by the audience.
