A protocol for the construction of martyr’s memorial for 315 killed soldiers was signed between Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Municipality of Doboj Istok from Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 17, 2018, in Kartepe.
Beside President of the TDBB and Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu and Mayor of Doboj Istok Kemal Bratic, members of TDBB’s Administrative Board were present at the signing ceremony that was held before the Meeting of TDBB’s Administrative Board.
Mayor of Doboj Istok Municipality Kemal Bratic said, “For the very long period we wanted to build this memorial, but we didn’t have the financial strength to do it. I am very thankful to TDBB and its members. This signature that is signed demonstrates how strong cooperation between the TDBB and Bosnia and Herzegovina is. With the construction of the memorial for the 315 martyrs that were killed and 500 soldiers that were wounded in the city of Doboj Istok the friendship between Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be strengthened.”
It is planned to finish the construction of the memorial until July
Doboj Istok is a municipality that is located in Northeastern Bosnia and in administrative term is part of Tuzla Canton. The municipality of Doboj Istok was formed after signing the Dayton Agreement. During the war, the municipality was located on the front-line. When the war erupted 109th Brigade of the Bosnian Army was formed in Doboj. The Brigade was composed of approximately 815 soldiers who were in charge of defending this region. Because the front-line was in close-range with municipality and villages it caused great losses in civilian lives.
