Novi Grad Municipality, a Municipality of the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina Sarajevo, celebrated its 40th anniversary with a ceremony held on December 15, 2017.
The celebration ceremony was hosted by Semir Efendic, the mayor of Novi Grad and the board member of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB). The programme was attended by senior politicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina, diplomatic mission representative among whom were representatives of the Embassy of Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo, Secretary General of the TDBB Fahri Solak, director of Yunus Emre Cultural Center Mehmet Akif Yaman, Mayors of Bosnian Municipalities that are the members of the TDBB and by many other invitees.
The ceremony was opened by Rusmir Baljic, President of Novi Grad Municipal Council. After conveying his greetings regarding the 40th anniversary, Baljic said, “I celebrate this day with the great pride as Municipality has left great success behind, and we defined greater goals for Municipality in the future”.
TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak who addressed the participants in the speech “conveyed his congratulations and expressed his satisfaction to be at the anniversary ceremony of one of the members of the TDBB out of more than thousand members from the 28 different countries of the world. Solak stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the countries in which TDBB is most actively working, pointing to the fact that the initiatives of the mayors of member municipalities are the determining factor.”
Novi Grad Mayor Semir Efendic stressed the importance of the anniversary in his speech. “During the Bosnian war, municipality played a very important role in the defense of the municipality, the city, and the state and produced some of the greatest heroes of the national defense. Since the founding of the municipality in 1977, it has become a part of history by taking the role in the construction of the city. Our municipality was actively involved in the reconstruction process after the war. I am very happy that we have gained the trust of our people in the five years of the mayoralty”.
Plaques for Success were given
After Mayor’s speech, the famous Bosnian football player Edin Dzeko congratulated the anniversary of the municipality from Rome via live link. Due to success the famous football player has demonstrated, Municipality’s “Safet Hadzic plaque” was given to him. A documentary explaining the municipality during the war and its development after the war was also shown. The ceremony ended with the introduction of success-plaques and a mini concert.
